The medical community has recognized a number of eating disorders which prevent healthy weight management. Two of these disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Unlike other weight management issues, these conditions require help from a medical professional to overcome.
Anorexia Symptoms: Dramatic weight loss, obsession with weight/counting calories/dieting, severe exercise regimen, believes and comments about being fat despite emaciated appearance
Bulimia Symptoms: Binge eating huge quantities of food followed by purging via vomiting or laxatives, tooth damage from vomiting, hand and knuckle calluses, excessive water and diet drink comsumption
In both conditions, the patient has an extreme obsession with weight, dieting and food control. Other emotional effects include: preoccupation with food, discomfort eating around others, isolation from friends, severe attention to body size and shape, extreme moods
